SUPERIOR APARTMENTS

Little Haiti in Miami, FL || 2016-2019

Superior Apartments was The Vagabond Group LLC’s first affordable housing project and uniquely combined the concept of traditional affordable housing with historic preservation to conserve the community’s architectural fabric. Located in Historic Lemon City, Superior Apartments is a notable example of the MiMo motor courtyard building. The financing of the project involved Miami-Dade County Surtax program, which allowed for a full rehabilitation of all 19 units resulting in high-grade affordable housing units within the context of the Little Haiti neighborhood.

6820 SCATTER

Little Haiti in Miami, FL || 2016-2018

6820 Scatter is a smaller scale affordable housing project taken on by The Vagabond Group LLC around the same time as the Superior Apartments project. The four unit structure reflects the MiMo architectural style of the post-war period through the acute angled roof slopes and patterned stucco slump brick detailing. The core idea is the same: integrating historic preservation into the renovation process contributes to the resiliency of the community by providing truly affordable, close-to-core, affordable housing units.

The Vagabond Group partnered with the Omni Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and the Mt. Zion Community Development Corporation (CDC) in 2018 to renovate 16 Corner, an assemblage of five garden style apartment buildings located in the Historic Overtown.
